PLEASE NOTE: The Santa Barbara Public Library System is in the process of switching Resource Sharing vendors, and during this transition, Inter-Library Loans (requests for items outside of the Black Gold Cooperative System) will be temporarily suspended
:: Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service of the Santa Barbara Public Library System that allows patrons to obtain books, videos, DVDs, CDs, audiocassettes, microfilm/microfiche, and periodical articles not owned within the Black Gold Cooperative Library System.
Locating and receiving a requested item usually takes three to six weeks. Although every effort will be made, no request can be guaranteed. Patrons will be notified if, for some reason, their request cannot be filled.
The Santa Barbara Public Library System charges a service fee of $15.00 per item requested. The ILL department always attempts to borrow from libraries who lend free of charge. If a free lending library is not available, ILL staff will contact the patron about lending charges prior to borrowing the item.
An ILL request must be initiated at a branch of the Santa Barbara Public Library System. Within the library, patrons may use the California Catalog or receive staff assistance at the Information or Reference desks. Patrons may also telephone the library.
ILL material must be picked up at and returned to a branch of the Santa Barbara Public Library System. Patrons are notified when the requested material is ready for pick up. The loan period and renewal option for an ILL item is determined by the lending library. Patrons are encouraged to return all ILL material to the Circulation Desk.
All ILL material is subject to a $2.00 per day overdue fee. Charges for lost, damaged or stolen ILL material is subject to the lending library’s costs, rules and regulations, and are the responsibility of the borrowing patron.
