Series and Sequels
- The 'Juvenile Series and Sequels' database
currently contains over 22,000 books in series titles that are searchable by title, subject or author and which are classified into three audiences:
- Young Adult – for high school-aged readers
- Juvenile – appropriate for grade school through junior high-aged readers
- Juvenile Easy – for young readers just beginning to read

Teen Collections
-
Fiction
Young adult fiction consists of novels for readers from grade seven through grade 12. These are selected with attention to literary quality, relevance to teen life, current trends in teen literature and teen requests. The fiction collection includes mystery, fantasy and science fiction titles as well as historical and contemporary novels and short stories.
-
Non-Fiction
Most young adults use the adult non-fiction collection for school assignments. The Central Library offers a small young adult non-fiction collection concentrating on specific areas of interest to teens. These include careers, poetry, pop culture, self-image and self-development, popular celebrities, sports and writing.
-
Graphic Novels
This is a developing collection of titles that integrate graphic art into the storyline as an essential element. A format rather than a genre, graphic novels include titles that are fiction and non-fiction. The Central Library has a separate collection of graphic novels in the upstairs Teen Corner in addition to titles in the adult non-fiction collection.
-
Magazines and Paperbacks
Teen magazines in both English and Spanish are available for browsing and checkout, and paperback copies of popular series and authors can be checked out at Central and branch libraries.
For help in selecting or finding materials, please ask a member of the Library staff.

Teen Reading Resources
- Genrefluent - This site is maintained and updated by author, librarian, and omnivorous reader, Diana Tixier Herald. She runs The Center for Adolescent Reading in the Denver area in Colorado
- Reading Rants - Jennifer Hubert’s site is hugely popular across the country with those who love YA literature. Ms. Hubert is the author of Reading Rants: A Guide to Books that Rock!
- Teen Reads - Like Ms. Hubert’s site, this site is intended for teens between 12 and 17.
- Teen Reading/YALSA - If teens need a site with lists of books that are current, this is the place to go. This list includes the Alex Awards for the best adult books with teen appeal published each year.
- Reads For Teens - This Indiana site is run by the Carmel Clay Public Library. It has links to books in many different categories.
- Guys Read - Lots of research has been conducted in the last few years to determine why so many boys seem to lag behind girls in reading motivation. Jon Scieszka, author of several great books for children, especially boys, is the founder of this web-based, literacy site. The web site includes recommended “guy” books, a search engine for finding books, information about Jon, and other links. The books are divided by age, from elementary through high school.

Teen Reading Blogs
- Teen Lib Wiki - Wikis are a collective presentation of knowledge. This one is sponsored by the YALibrarian.com. It is updated sometimes by the minute or even second, as long as the person doing the updating has registered a free account. On the “Featured Pages” list is a link to “Wiki Booklists.”
- Voice of Youth Advocates - Even though this site, like the YALSA site above, is geared more toward teachers and librarians than to teens, it is worth listing because this magazine is the only one that regularly features both adult and teen reviewers. The VOYA review scale (5Q,5P) is widely used in schools and libraries across the country (the Q stands for quality and the P stands for popularity; the higher the number, the better or more popular the book).
- Cynthia Leitich Smith - When doing a list of books for teens it is important to be aware of cultural difference and diversity. On the left side of the page, users will see the links for finding all sorts of books such as multiracial books, Asian books, etc. Ms. Smith is an award winning author and speaker.
- Nancy Keane’s Booktalks - Booktalks are short commercials designed to pique the interest of teen (or other) readers without giving away the ending or other surprises crucial to maintaining interest in the story. Nancy Keane is an author who has compiled booktalks over the years.
- Teen Lit - This site includes teen reviews, providing both name and grade level of students writing the review.
