Volunteens
The Santa Barbara Public Library System invites teen volunteers to help with library activities. “Volunteens” help the children and teen programs run smoothly and use their skills and talents to enhance Library service in their communities. Time sheets are kept for those “Volunteens” who wish to earn community service hours to meet local school requirements.
Possible Volunteen Tasks
- Process and organize paperback books
- Check book titles for book lists
- Collect specific books for projects
- Organize a specific library area
- Help with preparation for children’s programs
- Help with crafts and displays
- Assist computer users
- Help sort and label gift books for local preschools
- Participate in the Teen Advisory Group
To become a teen volunteen, visit the library where you are interested in volunteering and fill out the library volunteer application and agreement. (If you are under 18, you will need a parent’s signature on these forms.) Library staff will talk with you and decide on hours and tasks.
For questions about becoming a "Volunteen," contact the nearest branch of the Santa Barbara Public Library System or call the Youth Services Department at (805) 564-5652.
